![]() | Assignment 4 -site analysis- |
![]() Synopsis Our site is located in Sladden Park, Eugene, Oregon. It is in the middle of a low income residential area with an elementary school within short walking distance. There is a river north of it and the bike path comes in from the east. The entire class was broken down into pairs and each pair was assigned a region or aspect to inspect. For example, Elizabeth and Jennifer received the important task of plotting the trees. And an electronic model was created by Gary H and Nate. Gary W and I were assigned the structures north to the site. We went around the buildings and took pictures with scale figures for reference. Taking the information we gathered and analyzed, we created models at sixteenth inch scale to combine with everyone else's models to make an complete site model. Assignment Analysis Upon reaching the site in Summer's stickshift Honda Civic wedged in the backseat (I must say it was a nice car despite it being so jammed), all I could think about was how different I pictured it. I was thinking more of a place like Fremont, California's central park which houses Fremont Main Library. It is a huge park surrounding a beautiful lake with the attendance in the upper hundreds. This, however, was one square block and very quiet. I only noticed three people outside our group not counting the four cars that drove by. One looked like a homeless person walking down the east-bound part of the street. Another was sitting in his chair on the lawn, west of the site, observing the unusual group that was suddenly invading the park. I believe that Robby went up to interview him. The last person was hosing his car or lawn, south of the site. Other than that and two ducks wading in a swimming pool just outside our boundaries, there was no other noted forms of life as far as my memory serves me. The east half of the site was covered with giant trees, rising to about 150 feet. There were many recreational facilities also on that half of the site such as a single tennis court, a backboard, a dry wading pool, a playground, and a basketball court. There was also an out of place bathroom in the middle of the giant trees, which, we were told. houses much illicit activity during the night. Gary and I proceeded towards our site of study after a talk with the professor. Prior to reaching the site, we noted three condos, six units total, and one office opposite the condos. When we reached the place, we found two picnic benches between the office and the condos on a small grassy hill and three car covers, one for each condo. We took pictures as much as axonometrically as we could to maximize the accuracy of relative measuring. My Presentation We spent a few hours making the models to place on the base of the site model which was already made. The pieces were not the easiest to handle since the pieces were so small. We finished our models and placed them on the site. The next day, we found out that our models were off scale by about fifty percent. But the current size seemed more plausible than the actual size in relation to the other buildings and such on the site model so it was left alone. ![]() |
