![]() | Assignment 3 |
![]() Synopsis The entire class was split into two and each part was designated a part of the school. One was Willamatte Hall and vicinity I believe the other was somehwere around the Knight Library. Then each individual in each group was given a particular item to study and draw. There were many items from which to choose from and I chose overhangs. So, I selected a portion of an overhang in Willamatte. We were to measure out the dimensions and draw it out in section, elevation, plan, and perspective. We were also to identify particular elements used in the design such as repetition, rhythm, symmetry, and hierarchy. The purpose was to become aquainted with these elements and was the first piece of drafting done in this class. Assignment Analysis Mehreen, Gary W, and I went to Willamette Hall to measure the dimensions of our elements. I looked at my overhang which towered above me. I thought about how big of a pain in the ass it would be to measure it. I measured all the sections on the wall using a tape measure and multiplying it by how many sections there were. I measured the window frames and multiplied that by how many window frames there were. For parts without sections, I measured the bricks and multiplied those by how many there were. Finally I figured out the height of the overhang at its heighest point. I proceeded to measure the height of its lowest point and used geometry to figure out the angle of tilt and how long the overhang is. Seeing no way to really measure the location and size of the skylights and beams, I guessed. Then I went inside to see how they were doing and helped out. All the while, people passing were staring at us wondering what the heck we were doing. My Presentation I um...*cough* missed class the day of this presentation. My alarm clock didn't ring and I woke up at 11. Ack. My presentation was laid out on my table. Everything was posted on a piece of 18"x24" drawing paper. The picture that you see is missing a diagram. I'm not sure where it went, but I know it's gone to a better place.... =*( ![]() |
